Karen Cucinotta studied fashion illustration at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and painting at the Universita Italiana der Stranieri in Perugia, Italy and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Currently, she is a selected member of The Artists of the Thomas Project with a studio in a nineteenth-century cokeworks in Birmingham, Alabama.

Painting from life, working from models- this was my studio life up until 2020. Sometimes, it takes a jolt to start us down a new path. And, that’s always exciting. With isolation and cut off from my subject matter, I found my work changing into a rendering of memories of landscapes and people becoming, necessarily, more abstract. To adapt to the subject matter, I began to add painted collage elements of linen and paper to the composition. This layering of materials worked in the way that memories are layered. Making art from these ephemoral memories made them real in a way. I hope the viewer will find their own glimpses of reality in these pieces.
